Answer first
"Fake Pasha Gold V4" is a seller label. It is not a factory name and not a Cartier reference. The phrase describes a replica of the Cartier Pasha de Cartier with a gold finish, sold as the fourth iteration in one seller's lineup. No standards body defines v4. Two sellers can use the same label and ship different watches.
What the v4 label covers
Replica sellers bump version numbers when a case, dial, or movement supplier changes. A v4 tag can mean any of these:
- Revised case profile, lugs, or crown guard
- New dial print, hands, or date window
- A different movement, quartz or automatic
- A change in plating thickness or gold tone
Sellers seldom publish change logs. Ask for photos of the actual unit, not catalog renders.
Gold finish versus solid gold
Genuine Pasha de Cartier gold models use solid 18k gold cases. Replicas sold as "gold" use gold plating or PVD over 316L stainless steel. Plating thickness varies and sellers rarely state it.
Density gives a fast check. Fine gold runs about 19.3 g/cm3 and 18k alloy about 15.5 g/cm3, against 8.0 g/cm3 for 316L steel. A solid gold case weighs close to twice a steel case of the same volume. A plated steel case feels light for its size.
Hallmarks differ. Genuine 18k gold carries a 750 stamp plus a maker mark. Plated items should be marked as gold plated under US FTC jewelry guides, not sold as "gold."
Specs to compare
- Case size: 41 mm and 35 mm are the common Pasha de Cartier sizes
- Crown: screw-down cap on a small chain, set with a cabochon
- Crystal: sapphire on the genuine watch, mineral glass on some replicas
- Movement: Cartier calibre 1847 MC automatic on the 41 mm model
- Water resistance: rated to 100 m on the genuine Pasha de Cartier
- Caseback: engraved reference and serial numbers, plus gold purity stamps
Movement options
Many gold-finish replicas ship with quartz movements to hold a low price. Automatic versions cost more and add case thickness. Ask which movement sits inside and who made it. A clone automatic does not match the finish or service interval of the 1847 MC.
Limits to know
Counterfeit watches are subject to seizure at US borders, and trafficking in counterfeit goods carries criminal penalties under 18 U.S.C. 2320. Cartier does not service replicas, and resale value is close to zero. A plated case also wears through at the lugs and crown over time. Treat any "v4" claim as a seller statement, not a quality grade.
