The AMVOX name belongs to Jaeger-LeCoultre. The line ran from 2004 to 2014 under a partnership with Aston Martin. Published JLC catalogs list AMVOX1, AMVOX2, AMVOX3, AMVOX5, and AMVOX7. There is no public catalog entry for an AMVOX 6. A listing that uses that name is a mislabeled genuine watch, a seller error, or a counterfeit. Get the caseback reference number before you send money.

Step 1: Read the caseback

Genuine AMVOX watches carry a reference number on the caseback. The format is a short numeric code, sometimes with a material suffix. Genuine engraving is shallow, sharp, and even in depth. Replicas show deep, rounded letters, laser etching, or a dark halo around each character.

The serial number is 6 to 8 digits. It appears on the caseback and on the warranty card. The two must match. If the seller will not send a clear photo of both, stop there.

Step 2: Look at the chronograph control

The AMVOX2 chronograph has no pushers on the case flank. Start, stop, and reset run through the sapphire crystal. Press the crystal above the center to start and stop. Press it below the center to reset. A watch billed as an AMVOX with two round pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock does not match the design.

Step 3: Check the movement

Genuine AMVOX watches use in-house JLC automatic calibers. Replica cases hold stock ebauches. Finishing on a fake is stamped. Finishing on a real JLC movement shows Geneva stripes, beveled bridges, and blued screws. Ask for a movement photo with the caseback removed, or take the watch to a watchmaker.

Step 4: Compare price and paperwork

AMVOX production ended in 2014. Genuine chronographs trade on US secondary markets in the four to five figure USD range, set by reference and condition. Listings at $300 to $900 for a "new" AMVOX are not genuine. Boxes, cards, and service papers add value. Papers are copied too, so match every serial.

Step 5: Verify before buying

  • Request the full reference and serial in writing.
  • Ask a JLC boutique or an independent watchmaker to confirm the numbers.
  • Pay with a method that allows a chargeback. Wire transfers and gift cards do not.
  • On private sales, meet at a watchmaker for a same day check.

Counterfeit watches are illegal to import into the United States. US Customs can seize them at the border, and the buyer carries the loss.
